Eleventh Annual Jason Kuhn Memorial Golf Scramble set for Saturday, June 27 at Horseshoe Bend Golf Course Community Hog Roast to Follow Tournament

The 11th annual Jason D. Kuhn Memorial Golf Scramble will be held on Saturday, June 27, at Horseshoe Bend Golf Course, located in northern Rush County. Tee time is 12:30 p.m., with registration beginning at 11 a.m. This year will, again, feature a community hog roast immediately following announcing of the tournament winners.
Members of the general public who aren’t interested in golfing but are interested in attending and helping the cause are welcome and encouraged to attend the hog roast. Anyone not golfing will be able to purchase the $15.00 hog roast/concert tickets at Horseshoe Bend Golf Course, at Rush Memorial Hospital, or download a form on-line at www.kuhngolf.blogspot.com all beginning Friday, May 8. The cost of the hog roast is included in the team entry fee for golfers.

“Each of the ten previous tournaments has been special for different reasons,” said Andy Wilson, co-founder of the scramble (along with Adam Decker and Marc Steczyk). “We are thrilled that this event not only keeps Jason’s memory alive but has, over the years, helped some really great causes.”

Profits from this year’s tournament will, again, be donated to the Sheehan Cancer Care Center at Rush Memorial Hospital (RMH) in Rushville. Last year’s tournament generated nearly $6,000 for the cancer center.

To date, the tournament has raised more than $75,000 since its June 1999 inception, and the proceeds have been used to endow two Jason Kuhn Memorial Scholarships at Franklin College. One scholarship, endowed for the life of the college, is awarded to an advertising/public relations major; and the other, also endowed for the life of the college, is awarded to a member of Franklin’s Kappa Delta Rho fraternity of which Jason was a member. Proceeds from the 2003 tournament, the first after the scholarships became fully endowed, were donated to the American Cancer Society. The proceeds from 2004-2008 have all been donated to the Sheehan Cancer Care Center, amassing a total approaching $24,000. The $24,000 mark represents nearly half of the tournament cofounders’ goal and commitment to the Cancer Care Center of $50,000.

He passed due to complications from Hodgkin’s disease.
